Writing with a Phone

The Traccia is a phone concept modeled on how we use a writing instrument, specifically a pen. The intuitive way we write on a sheet is translated to commands for the phone thanks to the embedded optical sensor  located at the end of the stick. Basically whatever you write gets translated to a  command or function via the installed software. This means your invisible writing can be converted to SMS or an email, just like that!

The navigation design is basic with just three simple keys to one end. The built in polycarbonate gives the phone a natural feel and makes the touchscreen even more alluring. And of course no phone is complete without a camera, so the Traccia positions its camera at the center of the arc, right under the display.

All said I done, I just have to wonder if the grip of this phone is as comfortable as the rest. An arc on a stick doesn’t look ideal, but you never know till you don’t try it.

Visitors ascended double spiral staircases at the centre of the building, draped with clothing by Katrin Greiling and lighting by David Taylor, before arriving at a 360-degree two-storey diorama filled with taxidermy.
20 Designers at Biologiska
Designers including Fredrik Färg and Staffan Holm presented work on the circular landings and inside glass cases.

Further pieces were on display inside the diorama itself and in the museum’s ground floor hallways, including work by Mark Braun of Germany and Florian Hauswirth of Switzerland.

The exhibition, called 20 Designers at Biologiska, was curated by French designer Emma Marga Blanche and Dutch designer Fredrik Färg in collaboration with museum director Lars-Erik Larsson and Hanna Nova Beatrice of Plaza Magazine.

The information that follows is from the curators:

INTERNATIONAL DESIGN IN THE SWEDISH NATURE. WELCOME TO A MAGICAL & DIFFERENT DESIGN EXPERIENCE IN A FANTASTIC MUSEUM.
An exhibition that is about evolution, diversity, and universality, where contemporary design, art and light is housed in an unexpected context. A magical place of historical and emotional value that creates a dialogue between the stationary artificial scenery and the always variable design stage. Curated by Fredrik Färg, Emma Marga Blanche and Hanna Nova Beatrice.
20 Designers at Biologiska
The French-born designer Emma Marga Blanche visited ”Biologiska” Museum for the first time Christmas 2009. She was immediately mesmerized by the fantastic scenery. Even the inhabitants of Stockholm know more about the outside of the Museum than the magic inside, that revealed itself for Emma like a frozen treasure of nature from 1893. The idea of showing the location to others began to germinate.
20 Designers at Biologiska
In April 2010 Emma visited the site with Fredrik Färg and met Lars-Erik Larsson, the head of the museum, who vividly described the museum and its interesting history. The idea of a design exhibition within the premises was born and Fredrik who likes anything but white boxes as the backdrop for his work engaged himself.
20 Designers at Biologiska
In the autumn of 2010, it became clear that Lars-Erik of “Biologiska” and Hanna Nova Beatrice from Plaza Magazine together with Emma and Fredrik would create the event: ”20 designers at Biologiska” at Stockholm Design Week 2011.
20 Designers at Biologiska
It includes, as its name implies, 20 national and international designers from more than 15 countries. From the Netherlands to Italy, Sweden and Canada. Designers like Duilio Forte, Valantin Loellman, Cate & Nelson, Cooper & Gorfer as well as the curators themselves will have their contemporary design represented in the dioramas of Biologiska. Biologiska, which in principle is a daylight museum will be shown in new and exciting ways made possible by the main partners, lighting companies Cardi and Elektroskandia Belysning.

The “Biologiska museet” is situated at Djurgården and was built in 1893. The architecture is inspired by the medieval Norwegian stave churches.

The pioneering educational aspect of the museum was the use of the diorama for the first time on a grand scale in order to present the natural habitat. The perspective of the diorama unites foreground and background. The large, painted backgrounds are the work of Bruno Liljefors who is famous for his dramatic painting of birds and animals.

The vast diorama, which can be viewed from two levels, presents the different types of landscape from inland Sweden as well as from the coast.

20 Designers make a birdhouse!! What is it with little houses

Jérémy couture + claudia després: birdhouses

the canadian multidisciplinary design collective 6.1 (jérémy couture + claudia després) has created a series of birdhouses, taken roughly as a whole village, each made for specific birds:    the believer, the dreamer, the female bird's lover, the good eater, the handy bird, the home owner, the voyeur etc.

the collection of 13 birdhouses was presented as part of the '20 designers at biologiska' exhibition at the biologiska museum during the 2011 stockholm furniture fair.

'bedlight' stands alone as its own birdhouse and bedside night light table. its roof provides the perfect bookmark for your bedtime literature.

'the church'
russian plywood, gold paint, lacquer, steel

this birdhouse church is a tall lantern that features a cross on its façade, in a which a light source can be placed inside, illuminating the iconic symbol and recreating the calm atmosphere of contemplation.

'the strip club'
russian plywood, LEDs, acrylic, steel

with a classic vertical inviting 'XXX' street sign, 'the strip club' - painted in black as a means of adding a mystic allure to the object - is the perfect getaway for male birds on a cold winter night.

'the key hole'
russian plywood, acrylic mirror

establishing a relationship between two birds, 'the key hole' contains a mirror within, allowing a voyeuristic bird to admire a vain bird admiring himself within the reflective surface.

'the plant support'
russian plywood, paint, hand-painted by hugo-pierre fleury

a ladder leads one up to the birdhouse, which when embedded within a flower pot acts as a support for plants when needed. hovering over your greenery the birds can live in their natural habitat without getting tired of flying. down below, there is even a garden in which they can rest.

'the camouflage'
russian plywood, bark

the birdhouse is covered in birch bark, a natural skin, preventing it from being invaded by unexpected predators. it has been made for chicken-hearted birds and countryside living lovers. it can also be used as a hunting cache.

'the construction'
russian plywood, tyvek

built for entrepreneurial birds who prefer custom living, 'the construction' birdhouse provides a solid wooden frame structure with insulating tyvek covering its walls.

the ideal for greedy birds, the house is a pantry of compressed food. as birds eat away at the edible front façade they are simultaneously creating a house of their own.

'the fence'
russian plywood

this lantern reveals a bright fence at night. the birdhouse's wooden construction at the front, is relatively thin at certain places, which makes the pattern of the fence visible from the backlight. the scene is completed with the moon over the fence.

'the home decor'
russian plywood, ribbons, fabric

a little abode for those interior design loving birds. it comes with four white walls and a wooden floor, and the roof can be opened in which furniture stickers can be added allowing one to creating a space in which they feel right at home.

'the night light'
russian plywood, photo sensible light

for those night hawks out there, this is a small lamp which provides light, guiding you through the dark.

this sticker turns your house into the birdhouse, looking outside from within.

'the ribbon' - yellow
russian plywood, ribbons, fabric

'the ribbon' is a birdhouse with a new kind of fixture. as a means of hanging the houses, you simply need to gather some rocks, fill an accompanying bag with the weights and throw it over a branch. pull the attached colorful ribbons until the birdhouse has reached a desirable height. attach the bag around the tree, or detach the ribbons inside the bag to make a knot around a lower branch. without rain, a rainbow is unraveled.
