New Living in a movie, Badlands

Before there was Days of Heaven, there was Badlands. Both share a brilliant writer and director in Terrence Malick, and both hold me completely spellbound with their dusty views of the darker side of romance. Badlands is a soft-focus portrait of a teenaged girl and her drifter boyfriend who embark, almost accidentally, on a killing spree across the Dakotas.

1. Charles Anastase Denim Jacket, $553; 2. Crosley Traveler Radio, $69; 3. Vintage Brass Birdcage, $25; 4. Binoculars with Leather Case, $55; 5. Adirondack Twig Table, $195; 6. Revlon Love That Red Lipstick, $5; 7. Marais Oxfords, $88; 8. Grape Crate, $28; 9. Wire Basket, $30; 10. Lion Brand Matches with Box, $10

Killing sprees don’t generally make for dreamy entertainment, but Malick has a way of softening even the most senseless violence until it just fades into the background. Hand-hewn tree houses and rustic farms hide the couple on the run, and for a few minutes, you’re able to drift off and forget what’s really happening. When you come to, what’s burned on your retina isn’t the body count but the hazy adventure along the way.

I love the movie, dark as it is.

Stanley Console Table

Over the past few years, I’ve read (and responded) to quite a few emails asking about the Hola Y Adios Entry Table and where it might be found. Sadly, it seems to remain unavailable despite its apparent popularity. However, there is hope: look at this little new console table from Gus*. It’s got a rectangular recess to keep important things in place (like keys, phones, mail, etc.).

"Each chair has hand cut grooves on the inside edges of its seat frame as well as notches in the seat back. These grooves range from 1/2" wide to 1/8" wide."

"The mechanism works so that the pegs fit into the grooves of the chair one size bigger and slides into place so that the horizontal edge between the chair seat and back line up. The simple mechanism allows the chairs to be taken apart and put together with ease."

Both having the same simplicity and at the same time something genius.

Beautiful lighting design with a bit of JAWS!

Here is some more information from Citroën:

Milan 2011 On the edge of the hypothesis and the contemporary art, this hybrid object is based on the fulfillment of child’s dream with an obvious commitment for the ecology.

In the vocabulary of Ora-Ïto, we find a real assertion expressing and realizing the imagination. Inspired by the fluid curves of the Citroën « Traction Avant » monocoque structure and based on his designer’s competences, Ora-Ïto reflects on the ergonomics of the interior of the first mobile module. He has worked on the codes, the DNA and the philosophy of the car industry to modernize it with the possibilities and the existing technologies.
Mutation by Ora-Ito for Citroen
Associated to the research and innovation department of dynastic Citroën, he has developed a surprising and unexpected sculptures joining all the parameters and the technologies appropriate for the universe of car manufacturers. Baptized Evo Mobil, he creates a monotypic kind, which possesses only single specie. The term « genetic transformation » is used to indicate an irreversible modification of the genetic and hereditary information. If the transformation arrives up to cells then, it is passed on to the descendants of the mutant individual.

This change can get a selective advantage. This is the base of the evolution’s process.

Ora-Ïto has naturally imagined other modules to join the initial project. A continuity of the imagination allowing to multiply actions and give another reflection to « Evo Mobil ». He has created « UFO » which is inspired by an iconic car from Citroën. The DS model commonly used by the president is now enrolled into the « genetic transformations » from Ora-Ïto artistic vision that play on the strong and iconic details.

The vehicle is based on the future of transport mixed with one of the most famous cars in the world.

UFO sculpture allies the dream to the formal, the future to the technology. The idea to work with several entities allows all the « genetic transformations » to spread a universal message to the car industry through his artistic vision and new directions never investigated before.
