New Bondage-Type Jewelry We Could Really Get Into

Toss aside those ladylike links, the newest jewelry line to drop in the West Village has got an edge. MAL, the creation of sculpture-turned-designer Marisa A. Lomonaco, puts an aggressive (we're almost scared) spin on jewelry. We're particularly obsessed with MAL's collection of bronze and leather cuffs, some with details of sterling silver and gunmetal that could possibly be used in some sort of bondage ritual—not that we would know. Indeed, also a part of the MAL line—which appropriately means bad in French—are spiked rings and leather collars for those who dare. We love the appeal of pretty hardcore, make that pretty and hardcore, jewelry.

Get Sick With These Silver Hospital Bracelets

There's so many questionable puns we can use after spotting this to-die-for (there's one!) bracelet from the cult we just joined. The movement in question is the dope jewelry line Cast of Vices, who looks the dark side of pop-culture head-on with pieces that let you wear all your addictions in permanent form—coke bags, cigarettes butts, and Xanax pills, to name a few, well, vices. We know they're making fun of us a little bit with our newest O-D-worthy obsession (two), the $198 "Coming And Going Bracelet" (in other words, a hospital bracelet) we just peeped at OAK. Fabricated in silver, this wrist bling is worthy of an addiction (three). Sick. (And that's four). Read More

Lulu Frosts Another Layer

“I started out the [100-Year] collection with this real tour de force necklace to show off a century of history within one piece,” says Lulu Frost designer Lisa Salzer. She is referencing the $1,925 necklace—a mash-up of materials sourced from various eras and cultures, including Czech glass, Bakelite, and Art Deco glass from the thirties—she debuted in April. Since the moment for minimalism seems to have passed, Salzer has followed suit with more of her bold baubles. On Wednesday, she launches expanded offerings from the collection, earrings ($505) and bracelets ($576), on ModaOperandi.com.

“Just like the necklace, these pieces showcase all different decades and how beautifully they can harmonize together,” Salzer says of her vintage gems, each made from at least six different antique elements, like cut steel from the Victorian era, vintage buckles from the 1890’s, and Bakelite from the sixties. Salzer spanned many decades for her latest bijoux, but for her Spring 2012 outing, the designer says she’s stuck on the sixties’ surf culture. Photo: Courtesy of Lulu Frost

C’Mon, Get Happy

Cat-ear caps. Pompom pumps. Mink sunglasses. No doubt about it: ‘Tis the season of the out-there accessory. The latest designer to join the odder-is-better mix is Londoner Louise Gray, whose new collaborative jewelry line with Asos—under the umbrella of the e-tailer’s Asos Inc. incubator program—goes on sale this week.

Retailer/designer collaborations are a dime a dozen, but Asos sets its apart by allowing designers the opportunity to create categories that aren’t already part of their lines. Its first Asos Inc. designer, Thomas Tait, created his first bags; Gray used the chance to launch jewelry, which will also be styled into her upcoming show. Her pieces are all smiles—not to mention googly eyes.

“The jewelry I wanted to make was fun pieces that could be layered up or worn alone,” Gray told Style.com. “They have a carnival feel to them, like the duck whistle earrings, the large scale packets of fries, and the sun earring wearing sunglasses. They’re definitely for enjoying.”
