From Zeeland, Michigan, the famous “Eames Lounge Chair and Ottoman” was born. Today, this masterpiece has been exhibited at major museums such as the New York Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), the Smithsonian Institution and the Whitney Museum.

Expect everything you’d expect. Graced in black premium leather and finely crafted in black plywood framing, Herman Miller has exclusively released a limited Asia edition of this industrial icon. Limited to 100 pieces, the chair also generously comes with a limited edition framed poster. Priced at 854,700 Yen (around € 8.000,00), customers in Japan can soon honour the true craftsmanship of this chair thanks to Herman Miller.

De nieuwe aanwinst van het Rijksmuseum: de Bone Chair

De beroemde Bone Chair van Joris Laarman is sinds kort te zien in het Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. Het gaat om een papieren prototype en de aluminium uitvoering van de stoel. Het meubelstuk is geïnspireerd op de manier waarop botten zich ontwikkelen en is uitgegroeid tot een icoon in de designwereld. Van de aluminium versie zijn twaalf exemplaren gemaakt, van de papieren stoel is er slechts één. De stoel werd gemaakt met software die is ontwikkeld voor Opel. Deze software imiteert de groei van botten en is bedoeld om lichtere en sterkere auto-onderdelen te kunnen maken. Zie hier hoe de stoel tot stand kwam.

Laarman ontwierp de Bone Chair in opdracht van stichting Droog Design en de galerie Friedmanbenda. De papieren versie werd aan het Rijksmuseum geschonken door Laarman en Droog Design. De aluminium uitvoering is voor langere tijd in bruikleen bij het Rijksmuseum.

Zien? Tot en met 26 september zijn de stoelen samen te bewonderen. De papieren stoel wordt vanaf 2013 getoond in de opstelling in het vernieuwde hoofdgebouw. Of de aluminium versie ook in de vaste opstelling wordt opgenomen, is nog niet bekend.

LEGO has commissioned Sebastian Bergne to create a public installation using their iconic bricks as part of the London Design Festival. More serious work but also with a smile is shown in the tent Londen by Anthony Hartley with Edna 1 en 3 another wonderful design you will find there is Fouette by Niamh Barry a lighting design shown with 9 other luminous designs. It al start from 17 until 25 of September.
