Industrial designer Tom Dixon has developed a new lighting collection which is to be featured at his 'luminosity' showcase at the MOST design festival during milan design week 2012 next month from 17 to 22 April. The lighting showcase will be held inside a series of tunnels at the at the Leonardo da Vinci Museo Nazionale della Scienza e della Tecnologia a 16th century monastery. The collection of new lamps, lights and shades explore the potential of natural and artificial light in the future of lighting design. one of the pieces featured in this collection is the abstract sphere lampshade, ''Etch Web'. a Enlightened design with an large round shade made up of pentagons that cast geometric shadows over surrounding surfaces. Quite spectacular you made say, not enough it seems for Dixon, next to design furniture and other projects he is making a step to interior design as well.

Tom Dixon one of the well know designers at the moment, and his industrial stoical aprocese in lighting and furniture design are highly appreciated but also a strong message in design. This combination made him a conceptonair in Design. Displayed several lighting showcases over the years on the Milan Design Week. But Dixon also spread his wings and reached out to interior design by working on the interior on the restaurant at the Royal Academy of Arts in London, to see in pictures below. Dixon oversaw the project as creative director of interior design firm Design Research Studio, and has have make use of his own furniture and lighting design to make the interiors in the different areas, including a new range of chairs and the perforated Etch lamps, which you see hanging in clusters. Created for restauranteur Oliver Peyton of Peyton & Byrne, the dining area features a free-standing metal-framed glass unit to house sculptures that were previously hidden away in the Academy’s archives and where found by inspections. To keep in spirit of thing they divided the dining area has been into zones each inspired by an architect or artist key to the Academy’s history, including John Soane and J.M.W Turner. The restaurant opened there doors on January 2011.

Tom Dixon says: “I have always been inspired by the no nonsense approach of industrial artefacts and military engineering, science and mathematics, using the latest technologies and materials for processes and manufacture. Our new products shed as much light on the mechanisms and effects of luminous objects as on the design aesthetic itself.
